College of Science Accredited Level IV

In
concurrence with UST’s quadricentennial celebration, the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities – Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) granted all the science programs of the College of Science Level 4, the highest level that can be accorded to any institution.
The accreditation took place on August 31,2011 until September 1. The two-day visit focused on the verification of documents presented by the different committees of the following areas: Research, Teaching and Learning, Community Service, international Linkages and Consortia, Planning Processes, and Career Planning and Development for Students.

Graduate student Won Best Poster Award at PSBMB
The Philippine Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB) held its 39th Annual Convention last 29-30 November 2012 in Fort Ilocandia, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. Two Thomasian M. Sc. Microbiology graduate students from the UST Graduate School and the Fungal Biodiversity and Systematics Group of the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences attended the convention and presented part of their graduate thesis as posters.

Papa Presents Paper on Phage Therapy in South Korea
Medical Microbiology of the Philippine Society for Microbiology (PSM) was awarded a grant by the DOST-JSPS and Asian Heads of Research Councils (ASIAHORCs) to attend and present a paper on phage therapy during the 4th ASIAHORCs Joint Symposium on Biomedical Research held November 11-14, 2012 at the Lotte Resort, Buyeo, South Korea.

Faculty members from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De la Salle University (DLSU), and Miriam College (MC) conducted a seminar-workshop on “Basic Techniques in Molecular Biology for High School and College Science Teachers” last December 7, 2012 at the Paz Adriano Building, Miriam College in Quezon City.
