Actuarial Science is the complete blend of mathematics, statistics, probability, economics, business, and finance to analyze and solve financial and risk management problems. A successful actuarial career begins with a strong mathematical foundation and good communication skills.
The B.S Applied Mathematics major in Actuarial Science (BS AMAS) Program provides the best training ground for students who intend to pursue the actuarial profession. This four-year program thoroughly provides students knowledge in mathematics, business, and finance together with the corresponding application techniques. Thus, graduates are equipped with a strong combination of mathematical ability and business skills which allows them to be globally competitive.
The program includes a rich course offering of Actuarial topics such as:
- Life Contingency
- Risk Theory
- Theory of Interest
- Credit and Loss Models
- Pension Valuation
- Advanced Statistical Methods
Aside from the course work, students are trained to do research and are required to prepare and submit their undergraduate thesis.
Graduates of the program have a wide range of employment opportunities. They have high- entry level in various financial institutions such as:
- investment and insurance companies
- consulting firms
- consumer banks
- government agencies involved in retirement and
- pension plan
Others can be part of the academe conducting review programs and research work. Graduates who are interested to pursue further studies may take masters degree in Actuarial Science.
The B.S. Applied Mathematics major in Actuarial Science is a program offered by the Department of Mathematics and Physics under the College of Science. The program has a pool of :
- highly qualified master’s and doctoral degree holder
- faculty members recognized associates and fellows of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines (ASP) and the Life Management Insurance group (LMI) who hold prestigious actuarial positions in established financial institutions.
To continually keep the program abreast with important international changes and trends in the actuarial profession, the Department has established strong linkage with its outstanding alumni who actively participate in the program curriculum revision. Coordinating student researches are actuarial practitioners in pre-need firms, insurance companies, and banking institutions.
