Tree Planting in Rodriguez, Rizal

UST College of Science Holds Tree Planting in Rodriguez, Rizal
“400 Trees, 400 Lives” This is the tag line for the tree planting project of the UST College of Science in cooperation with the Local Government of Rodriguez, Rizal, the Bureau of Plant and Industry (BPI), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (Central Office and Region IVA), Hon. Elisea Gozun (former DENR Secretary), and Sen. Loren Legarda.
The initial tree planting activity was held August 14, 2010 in Barangay Rodriguez, Montalban, Rizal. A simple program was conducted which started with the Opening Remarks delivered by the Asst. Dean, Prof. John Donnie A. Ramos. It was followed by the Ceremonial Turnover of seedlings to the local government. The barangay captain expressed his statement of commitment. Then the actual tree planting followed. FACS Secretary, Cecilia I. Banag led the Prayer of Commitment.
On September 25, 2010, the second group of administrators, faculty members, and students visited Montalban for another tree planting activity. It is hoped that this will become a regular activity of the College of Science family.
This activity was chaired by Associate Professor Rosie S. Madulid with the following committee members: Dean Maribel G. Nonato, Asst. Dean John Donnie Ramos, College Secretary Rodrigo Litao, Assistant Prof. Elinda Dilan, Associate Prof. Letty del Rosario, Asst. Professor Potenciana Castro, Josephine P. Andal, and Associate Professor Angelina Silverio.
The College of Science believes tree planting as an initial step in saving future lives, a fitting contribution for the celebration of UST’s 400 years founding anniversary.
