Gina Lopez Keynotes
To speak before the College of Science community during the celebration of College of Science Week 2012 with the theme, “Building a Healthier Environment through Science” is an environmental advocate, Regina Paz L. Lopez.
As a managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation, the philanthropic arm of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, one of Asia’s largest multimedia companies, she has exerted her effort to its full extent in order to achieve its goal: to make people good stewards of the environment.
One of her accomplishments includes spearheading Bantay Kalikasan. This accorded her the 1997 International Public Relations Award for Excellence for the Environment and Outstanding Manilans Award for the Environment 2009.
She also made a name by launching the “Save Palawan Movement” along with partner organizations. Through it, she promoted protection of key biodiversity areas and discourage mining that ravages the environment.
She likewise initiated the rehabilitation of the Pasig River and its tributaries through “Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig” (Linking Arms for the Pasig River). This led to her appointment as the Chairperson of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission.
Her name is also associated with Bantay Bata 163, Sineskwela , ABS-CBN Bayan Foundation, and “Bayanijuan” (Country of Juan).
Ms. Lopez went to Assumption College and Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Boston. She has a Master’s Degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management and a Doctorate Degree in Humanities, Honoris Causa from the Ateneo de Naga University. She has two sons.
