Holdsworth of UoN, Australia Visits UST

Dr. John HoldsworthDr. John L. Holdsworth, Senior Lecturer of the University of Newcastle, Secretary of Australian Optical Society,

and the former Asst. Dean of the Teaching and Learning, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Newcastle (UoN), New South Wales (NSW), Australia visited the University of Santo Tomas, a result of the tie-up between the two universities as stipulated in the MOU signed in November 2013.

As specified in the MOU, the partnership seeks to promote cooperation through exchange programs for study, research, and research training; develop joint courses and education programs; and undertake joint conferences, seminars, and workshops. As a consequence of the said academic linkage, Dr. Holdsworth shared his expertise in the following activities: a lecture on “Science and Technology Education” held at the UST High School Auditorium on February 6, 2014, an activity of the UST – College of Science, Department of Math and Applied Physics in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering; a lecture on “Scanning optics for Biomedical application,” an alternative class for Applied Physics students held on February 5, 2014 at Room 323, Main Building, one of the activities during the College of Science Week 2014; and OBE critiquing with Math and Physics Department on February 4, 2014.

At present, Dr. Holdsworth serves as the supervisor of two Applied Physics students major in Instrumentation who are holding their internship at UoN, the first batch of student trainees in the said university.
