Gerong of UST-CS Bio Department Wins the Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation
Anna Patricia V. Gerong who was acclaimed the best undergraduate oral presenter, represented the group composed of Patricia D. Orellana, Chrio A. Sta. Ana, George Louis P. Caballes, Kenoses L. Legaspi, Jonathan Carlo A. Briones, and Rey Donne S. Papa in the oral presentation of their paper, “Distribution of Macrophytes in the Littoral Zones of Lake Taal” during the 23rd Annual Philippine Biodiversity Symposium and joint meeting of the Association of Systematic Biologists of the Philippines (ASBP) and the Wildlife Conservation Society of the Philippines (WCSP) on April 1-4, 2014 at the University of San Carlos, Cebu. The theme of the symposium is “Forging Partnerships for Understanding and Conserving Philippine Biodiversity”.
Categories of presentations include the following: high school poster presentations, undergraduate poster presentations, regular poster presentations, high school oral presentations, and undergraduate oral presentations. Aside from poster competitions and oral presentations, there were also exhibits, workshops and parallel scientific paper presentations.
Thomas Brooks, Head of Science and Knowledge Unit of the International Union of the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and Peter K. L. Ng, Professor of the Department of Biological Sciences and Director of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research at the National University of Singapore delivered the keynote addresses.
The Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE), Rare, Primer Group of Companies through the Center for Outdoor Recreation and Expedition, The University of Kansas, Conservation Leadership Programme, Mabuwaya Foundation, and Fauna & Flora International supported this year’s symposium.
