New CHED Appointees to Technical Committees
Six faculty members from the UST College of Science were appointed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) as chairs and members
of various Technical Panels and Technical Committees from January 1 to December 31, 2017, based on the CHEd Special Order No. 8, signed by CHEd Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan, PhD.
Former dean of the college Professor Emeritus Fortunato B. Sevilla, PhD was appointed chairperson of the Technical Committee for Chemistry and member of the Technical Panel for Science and Mathematics. Also appointed member of the Technical Committee for Chemistry is Prof. Maribel G. Nonato, PhD, the current Vice Rector for Research and Innovation of the University and the former dean of the College.
The current dean of the UST College of Science Prof. John Donnie A. Ramos, PhD was appointed as member of the Technical Committee for Biology and Molecular Biology. The current chair of the Department of Psychology Prof. Ma. Claudette A. Agnes, PhD, was appointed as the chairperson of the Technical Committee for Psychology, and a member, Technical Panel for Social Sciences and Communication.
Assoc. Prof. Mary Beth B. Maningas, PhD, of the Department of Biological Sciences was appointed as member of the Technical Committee for Marine Science while Assoc. Prof. Ma. Ninia I. Calaca, MA of the Department of Mathematics and Physics was appointed as member of the Technical Panel for Transnational and Distance Education.
CHEd Technical Panel and Technical Committee chairs and members “provide technical expertise to CHEd in conceptualizing and developing plans, policies, standards, guidelines, rules, and regulations concerning the operation of higher education programs; evaluate compliance of HEIs with minimum standards for the various higher education programs; formulate guidelines and criteria for identification of Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development; develop assessment instruments in undertaking monitoring and evaluation tasks; guide CHEd Regional Quality Assessment Teams; implement developmental programs and projects; and represent the commission in meetings / workshops / conferences / consultations / hearings.”
